On Monday I was recruited as a substitute for Dave & Sally’s team for the Fat Cat pub quiz. We managed to win, although I’m not sure how much credit I can take for that.

After Sunday’s nightmare, I was relieved to find my running apparently back to normal on Tuesday night. No-one felt much like cycling, so we went by car and did a few extra miles before the session, then I somehow managed to pretty much keep up with the fast folks for intervals up and down the prom.
I was expecting to be back in the Fat Cat on Wednesday for the monthly ex-colleagues catch-up, but with people claiming variously RSI, a cold, migraine and house rewiring we ended up putting it off until next week.
I took Friday off work, and didn’t do a huge amount with it, but I did put up the other two bike mounts in the garage, so now all six bikes are hanging on the wall and my hall looks strangely empty.
The mystery tiredness was back on Saturday, making a pretty slow parkrun feel extremely tough, but fortunately all was well again on Sunday for the annual club One Lap To Ultra social event (basically run as many 4.5-mile loops as you want/can within six hours, interspersed with eating cake). I managed seven laps (31.5 miles, or a bit over 50km) again, running the first five with Holly and Maria and the last two on my own. I briefly thought that might make me the joint leader, with the usual eight or nine lap merchants either missing or having to leave early, but well done to Jason for managing to just squeeze in an eighth after trying for the past few years. My home-made tortilla chips went down well again, despite the blue maize flour now being three years out of date, with people expressing the usual surprise that they taste much better than they look!
I did manage to win the Strava Art competition though, with my pathetic shark earning me a mug. That route has served me well, with a previous version of it winning me a Twilight 10k place!

Despite the day’s exertions, I managed to find the energy to cycle down to the Cricketers in the pouring rain to meet up with Dave, Sally and Neil for food and beer.
